Acupuncturists believe that (chi) or (Gi gong) energy flows through the body along pathways
called Meridians. Pressure points lie on these pathways and numbered accordingly to their
position. The meridians themselves are named for the internal organ they are associated with.

Meridians are classified in two ways - Yin and Yang-positive and negative energy. They do flow
in different directions.

There are 12 Meridians, which are found on both left and right sides of the body (Bilateral). The
last two are Vessels located on the body centerline.

YIN- (Negative Energy)

Lung
Spleen
Heart
Kidney
Pericardium
Liver

Yang- (Positive Energy)

Large Intestine
Stomach
Small Intestine
Bladder
Triple Warmer
Gall Bladder

The two Vessels:

Governor vessel-Yang energy
Conception vessel-Yin energy

In the upper Extremities of the body the YIN meridians have an energy flow that is leaving the
body. While the YANG meridians energy flow is entering the body.

In the lower Extremities of the body the YIN meridians have an energy flow that is entering the
body, while the YANG meridians energy flow is leaving the body.
